Take me home
When I was born, the first of four children, my parents decided it was a priority to them that my Mom should stay home and raise us. That meant a sacrifice somewhere, so they relocated to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. Having grown up in Northern Virginia, both of my parents were sure this would be for a short time while my dad renovated our home in Historic Harpers Ferry. We quickly decided that West Virginia is heaven on earth, and sunk our roots down deep.
This left my dad, John, commuting to the Washington DC area every day for the last 31 years, over an hour each way. He's dreamed for years of working in his home state, and as a family, we've planned and wished and hoped for many years that this could become a reality.
So here we are, making our dreams come true in our favorite place in the world. Working and living in the same community, serving the people we care about and know. I believe that my Dad's lifetime of work and learning in the construction industry has uniquely prepared him to take on this new stage and this new dream. His dream is to create a space where woodworkers, new and experienced, can come to share, learn from each other. Where they can grow in their hobby or trade, get access to the highest quality materials and technology, and receive excellent, old school service, just like in the old days. Technology enables us to not only offer these same services to our local West Virginians, but to anyone across the country with the same care, attention, and friendliness you would get at The Mill.
Like my own mother, I've been blessed to be able to stay home with my children as babies. Now I'm entering a new season in my life, and I'm so excited to begin this journey with Shenandoah Planing Mill. We fully intend this to be a family legacy. A place where our children can grow up and work, where friends come together. I love working with my father. I love learning about wood, and talking with people who are passionate about their craft. I love creating this business in West Virginia, and being able to share some of our state's beauty and treasures with the rest of the country!
